Warning: Avatar may be tainted

A great loss is about to occur–Peter Steinfels’ biweekly column, “Beliefs,” is about to disappear from The New York Times.
However, perhaps this vacuum will be partially filled by their new op-ed columnist Ross Douthat (see earlier blog entry about Karen Armstrong). His column today, about Avatar, is a brilliant short piece about the pantheistic non-theology espoused in that movie. He correctly cites Dancing With Wolves, Star Wars, The Lion King, and even Pocahontas as examples of the genre.
I doubt if I’d agree with Mr. Douthat about political issues, but the man knows a thing or two about Christian doctrine. Here’s the link:
