The problem with individualism

Just how much should we prize individual freedoms? Here’s a thoughtful (and thought-provoking) Op-ed piece for Independence Day, called “The Downside of Liberty” by Kurt Anderson, a very hip fellow. He seems to be writing from a moderately conservative position but at the same time undermines both right and left as he concludes, “We are all shamelessly selfish.” This is a bracing analysis of the national mood. It should surprise no one who reads the Bible.
