![]() Fleming Rutledge is a preacher and teacher known throughout the US, Canada, and parts of the UK. She is the author of ten books, all from Eerdmans Publishing. Her major work, The Crucifixion: Understanding the Death of Jesus Christ, is the product of a lifetime and is being described as a new classic on the subject. Her special favorites among her books are And God Spoke to Abraham, which is a rarity, being exclusively Old Testament sermons, and Battle for Middle-earth, which is unusual among Tolkien books because it is constructed around the plot itself rather than various themes, and concentrates on the hidden theological message that Tolkien explicitly acknowledges in his personal letters.

Scripture Index Created for Fleming's BookA pastor in Maastricht, Holland (where English is fluently read and spoken) has made a remarkable Scripture Index for The Battle for Middle-earth, Fleming's book about The Lord of The Rings. "It is a revelation to me," Fleming says; "I had no idea I had used so much Scripture from so many books of the Old and New Testaments. I am very pleased to realize that my Ring book is even more biblical than I knew, although that was my intention from the beginning." Let's hope it stays in print until the Hobbit movie finally gets made! The Battle for Middle-earth has a whole chapter on The Hobbit. Here is the link to the Scripture Index: |
